About Troop 508

For over 50 years, Troop 508 has served the boys of Irving.

Troop 508 is a boy led troop.  Our troop operates using the traditional ‘patrol method’ as described over 100 years ago by Robert Baden Powell. The BSA is one of the few organizations for youth where the adults are not ‘in charge’. The boys manage most aspects of troop operations under the guidance of adult leadership.  Our focus is on advancement through a fun atmosphere.  Troop 508 is a very active troop with a service mindset and strong outdoor program.

Where we meet

Meetings are Tuesdays 7-830 PM at Woodhaven Presbyterian Church, 3650 N. O’Connor, Irving.

We welcome visitors anytime.

Communication / Technology

Information is vital for both scouts and parents. Troop 508 uses a weekly newsletter to re-enforce (and expand on) the information provided at troop meetings. The troop uses Scoutbook (a BSA owned online tracking tool) to keep parents informed of their boy’s progress, along with a boy run website.

Outings and Campouts

The boys plan the year with events (usually campouts) for each month, including Summer Camp in July, and Winter Camp in December. Troop 508 strives to offer a ‘High Adventure’ type trip every year.

Adult Leaders

Troop 508 is committed to offering BSA’s program and is proud of its trained adult leaders. In addition to position specific training, many of our leaders have advanced training, including Wood Badge, Leave No Trace Trainer, Swim and Water Rescue, and Paddlecraft Safety among others.

The dedication to the program and the boys can be further exemplified by finding many of our leaders serving at the district, council, and national levels as well.
